What is Ryze Mushroom Coffee?
Ryze mushroom coffee describes itself as a unique blend that is loaded with adaptogenic mushrooms. This special blend delivers calmer energy, sharper focus, and immune support for a balanced body and clear mind. The taste is smooth, creamy, and delicious. With less than half the caffeine of normal coffee, you won’t have to worry about jitters or crashes.
As someone who loves both coffee and mushrooms, I was curious and decided to try it. My biggest issue with Ryse is their site and how predatory their purchase and subscription processes are. When I placed my order in November of 2022 there was no option to order a one-time package like Huel or Vite Ramen let me order. Instead, I needed to subscribe to their product on a recurring basis but was told I could cancel at any time. We’ll come back to that part.
Making my first cups of Ryze Mushroom Coffee
Once my order arrived I was very excited. I opened the package of Ryze and smelled the powder, a hint of both mushroom and something like cocoa. The instructions told me to use one tablespoon of powder for eight ounces of hot or cold water, however, the package came with a wooden spoon, smaller than a teaspoon, with a cup scoop size much smaller than a tablespoon.
No worries, I thought, and so I dumped a couple of heaps into my large mug and poured my hot water into it, stirring until all was dissolved. At first taste, it felt like watered-down coffee with some sugar-free chocolate. Imagine if you will someone makes some regular coffee in a pot, next they sprinkle a packet of hot chocolate mix into it, and pour it into a cup, but only about halfway. Then they add water to fill the rest of the cup to the brim; that is what this tasted like.
The results about thirty minutes after finishing the cup of Ryze were that I didn’t have the boost of energy I get from my regular coffee and I ended up making myself a cup of 365 Wholefoods Organic Ground coffee after. I shrugged this off thinking to myself that it was probably because I used their wooden spoon instead of an actual tablespoon, no worries; I’d get it right next time.
The next day I used a proper tablespoon, which resulted in using less and as expected a weaker cup of mushroom coffee. I made another cup directly after, refusing to make regular coffee this time, and added more of the Ryze powder, about three tablespoons in a single cup. I did end up getting a little jittery and didn’t finish the second cup. However, the taste itself was not much different. Things still felt watered down.
Using Ryze Mushroom Coffee as a mixer
Confused by things I decided to try mixing it with my regular coffee. Now, when I make my coffee in the morning I often use a teaspoon of cinnamon and another teaspoon of cayenne over the coffee grounds before I turn it on. So this time I added a wooden spoon worth to the top of my coffee grounds.
Out comes a cup of coffee, the flavor isn’t changed much as the coffee, cinnamon, and cayenne overpower any flavor that Ryze would produce.
Canceling Ryze Mushroom Coffee subscriptions is a fucking pain
I decided at this time to make sure I canceled my subscription as using this as a coffee ground topper will last quite some time and I don’t need a new package every three months. I visited my account page and followed the process for unsubscribing. This is where I became very annoyed. Each time I clicked on an unsubscribe button I was greeted by a message asking me to reconsider, asking me to try a discounted item, and finally after I had confirmed several times to cancel a subscribe button appeared in the same space as the cancel button. Had I not been paying attention and just constantly clicking unsubscribe over and over as I think many users often do, it would have been very easy to select that given how.
Is Ryze Mushroom Coffee a bad product and should you try it?
I don’t know. It’s not a product for me as it doesn’t serve as a coffee replacement. If you’re curious about trying it as a coffee additive because you want to incorporate more mushrooms into your diet then it may be worth trying for yourself. Just be careful and pay attention to their unsubscribe process.
