According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning actress is set to play Marita Lorenz, the German-born American who had an affair with the former Cuban president in 1959, shortly after the revolution that brought him to power.
Lorenz became pregnant at only 19, but had an abortion before leaving Cuba. She was then recruited by the CIA to assassinate then-Prime Minister Castro.
Marita was called the ‘Mata Hari of the Caribbean’ and went on to have a child by Venezuelan dictator Marcos Pérez Jiménez.
Her daughter, Monica Mercedes Pérez Jiménez, claims her mother’s CIA handler was Watergate burglar Frank Sturgis, who had connections to Castro, and reportedly to the John F. Kennedy assassination.
